It is a pleasure to welcome singer-songwriter Shae Brock to Jake’s Take.
The Arizona native turned Los Angeles transplant began playing the piano at a very young age and started writing songs when she was 12-years-old. Inspired by Gwen Stefani, Lorde, Stevie Nicks, and the late Tom Petty, Shae began her journey to a music career. Her work caught the attention with various media outlets including Complex, Popdust, and River Banks. She also collaborated with Kodie Shane, Phresher, and Gucci Mane.
In this edition of The Five Question Challenge, Shae opened up about her songwriting process, and the lessons that she learned from Gucci Mane when they collaborated on a remix of her single: “Transparency.”
Jacob Elyachar: When did you get interested in music? How did that passion evolve into the desire of pursuing a career in the recording industry?
Shae Brock: I cannot remember not being involved in music. It’s been my life ever since I can remember and something I’ve pursued seriously. I love being able to share my music with the world.
Jacob Elyachar: Could you describe your songwriting process to my readers?
Shae Brock: It is always a case by case situation. I do not have one set way of writing. Sometimes a lyric comes to mind or I will have a cool musical part that I would like to develop into a song.
Jacob Elyachar: What have been some of the greatest challenge that you faced throughout your career? How did you overcome those obstacles?
Shae Brock: I think being an independent artist is challenging yet rewarding in itself. I am currently an independent artist and it’s all about balancing everything that comes to shaping and growing your career. Being organized and efficient is a good tool to have.
Jacob Elyachar: Let’s talk about your latest single, “Transparency.” You collaborated with Gucci Mane. What are some of the lessons that you learned from Gucci that helped you grow as a musician?
Shae Brock: Working with Gucci Mane was so incredible. He is extremely sweet and professional. He absolutely nailed his verse in a couple of takes.
Jacob Elyachar: If you had the opportunity to meet with aspiring performers who want to take their careers to the next level?
Shae Brock: Yes, I would love to meet fellow performers!
