Last night. The Voice: Season 12 made history as Shania Twain became the first key advisor to join the coaches at their dais during the live shows.
The Top 12 performed for America’s votes and a chance to advance further along in the competition.
However, two artists tonight had to face the dreaded Instant Save vote.
For those of you who are new to the show, near the end of the night, two artists will perform one final time to receive the Instant Save. Viewers can vote for the Instant Save recipient via Twitter and on the show’s app, once host Carson Daly gives the signal.
Who went home? Who received the first Instant Save of Season 12? Read on to find out.
Carson Daly did not waste any time and revealed that Team Gwen’s Brennley Brown, Team Adam’s Jesse Larson, and Team Blake’s Lauren Duski were safe from being eliminated. Team Adam dedicated their performance of “Hey Jude” to the late Christina Grimmie, who was tragically killed last year at the hands of Florida gunman. While I appreciate the effort, I wish that they had the past members of Team Adam (Judith Hill, Will Champlin, Tessanne, Matt McAndrew, Jordan Smith, and Billy Gilman) joined the quartet on stage.
As Adam returned to his chair, Carson announced that America saved Team Alicia’s Vanessa Ferguson and Team Blake’s Aliyah Moulden from elimination. G-Eazy made his Voice debut to perform his hit, “Good Life,” from The Fate of The Furious. However, I wished that The Voice invited alums such as Chris Mann, Kimberly Nichole, Will Champlin, Sundance Head, Judith Hill, and Sisaundra come back and perform in the future.
While G-Eazy left the stage, it was time for Carson to reveal the latest artist to be saved: Team Adam’s Lilli Passero and Team Alicia’s Chris Blue! As the duo left the stage, Team Blake took the stage and tackled John Lennon’s “Crippled Inside.” While Lauren and Blake sounded great, I wished that Casi Joy and Felicia Temple replaced TSoul and Aliyah Moulden respectfully because that sounded abysmal.
As Team Blake left the stage, Carson revealed that America saved Team Gwen’s Hunter Plake (EW!), Team Blake’s TSoul (Double EW!), and Team Alicia’s Stephanie Rice (THANK GOD!). This meant that Troy Ramey and Mark Isaiah had the lowest amount of votes. Team Gwen’s Troy Ramey covered Uncle Kracker’s “Drift Away” for his Instant Save performance. Troy’s vocal was superb and mesmerizing from start to finish. He sang his heart out. (Grade: B+) In my humble opinion, Mark Isaiah is a one-note Justin Bieber wannabe, and Bruno Mars would not be happy with Mark’s abysmal vocal performance of “When I Was Your Man.” (Grade: F)
America saved…Mark (wrong choice, USA!)
Next week, the Top 11 perform!
