The next WBFF Pro that will be tackling The Five Question Challenge is Bethany Tenpenny!
In addition to achieving her Diva Fitness Model pro card at the US Central Show, Bethany works as a trainer at the Genesis Health Club in Wichita, Ks. For this edition of The Five Question Challenge, Bethany talked about why she chose to compete in the WBFF and shared how she structures her fitness routine.
Jacob Elyachar: Who inspired you to enter the fitness world?
Bethany Tenpenny: Fitness has always been a part of my life. I grew up in an active family. As a kid, I have fond memories of tagging along with my dad to his softball games, soccer games and racquetball matches. My favorite activity that he did was his long runs, while he ran I rode my bike. As an adult, teaching group exercise classes has allowed me to combine by love of music and movement. In each class I teach, I try to create a fun environment where everybody can succeed. My goal is for participants to fall in love with the group exercise experience so they will keep coming back for more.
JE: Why did you choose to with the WBFF?
BT: My trainer, Heather Klaassen WBFF Pro, introduced me to the WBFF. I was intrigued by the motto: “Where Fitness and Fashion meet!” Personally I like a bit of “flair” and that is what sets the WBFF apart from other fitness institutions. The WBFF is about empowering people and giving them a stage to be themselves times ten!
JE: Could you please describe your workout routine to my readers?
BT: I teach seven group exercise classes a week. They consist of Step, Cardio & Core, Power and Butz & Gutz. I lift four times a week and I always varying the equipment, sets & reps. I schedule my lifting sessions around my class schedule, making sure I have refueled before I lift. You will not find me doing any steady state cardio. I have found interval training is the most effective in maintaining muscle mass while burning calories. I like to finish my interval sessions with a variety of isometric holds.
JE: Why should athletes come to Kansas City and compete in the WBFF’s US Central Show?
BT: The US Central Show was a well-organized top-notch event. The Midland Theatre is a unique world-class venue that really sets it apart from other shows. The level of competition is phenomenal. I connected with so many amazing people with beautiful bodies.
JE: If you had the chance to meet with aspiring Diva Fitness Models who want to enter the show, what advice would you share with them?
BT: Eat Clean! Your diet is key in achieving your best body. Be patient when making adjustments to your nutrition plan; change takes time. Keep a log of your food intake. It is important to know how many calories you are consuming, but it is essential to know the macros that make up those calories. Adjust them according to your goal. Also be aware of your weaknesses. For example, I know for myself not taking that first bite of a brownie is easier than not taking the second bite.
