It is my pleasure to welcome singer-songwriter Etch to Jake’s Take!

Born Chloe Star Nakhjavanpour, Etch’s goal for her music career is simple—-make personal connections with her fans through her music. Inspired by an eccentric group of artists such as Demi Lovato, Guns N’ Roses and the late Amy Winehouse, Etch’s unique beats and vocal hooks over syncopated chords blend pop, hip-hop and rock together to create original and memorable music.

On Sunday, Etch will make her debut at the Mint, one of Los Angeles’ most recognizable clubs that specialize in introducing hot and upcoming talent to the music industry to the public.

In this edition of The Five Question Challenge, Etch previewed her upcoming show at the Mint and the inspiration behind her new single: “Kryptonite.”

Jacob Elyachar: When did you first get interested in music? How did that passion evolve into the desire of pursuing a recording career?

Etch: I first got interested in music when I was 12-years-old. While I started writing songs, I began to start to learn how to play various musical instruments. Music helped me overcome depression and substance abuse. I want people to listen to my music and be inspired. I want them to know that if I got through all the challenges and difficulties that were in my path, and in turn, I hope that anyone can overcome their personal obstacles as well. Finally, I also want my listeners to have fun! In my opinion, music is one of the most positive coping skills that anyone can have in their arsenal. It keeps me going every day.

JE: What are some of the challenges that you faced trying to break into the music market? How did you overcome them?

E: One major challenge that I am facing while trying to break into the music industry is building up my fanbase. The process can be really difficult until you grab an audience. Once, you have that audience, everything falls into place. Another challenge that I face is trying to keep a positive attitude. You cannot take anything personally in this industry; you just got to keep going!

JE: Let’s talk about your single: “Kryptonite.” What was the inspiration behind your single?

E: “Kryptonite” is basically a love song. While it is a love song, “Kryptonite” has some addictive upbeat, poppy hooks that will make listeners really happy! The inspiration behind the single is a guy that I met while I was driving around Beverly Hills with one of my friends. Suddenly, I saw this guy in the corner of my eye and I instantly told her: “Oh My Gosh! He is so cute!” I turned my car around completely and I told him that he was really cute and we exchanged numbers. We started to hang out and the love story turned into an amazing friendship!

JE: This Sunday, you will be making your debut at the Mint. What can fans expect from your set?
E:
I am very excited to announce that I will be performing unreleased music at the Mint! I have been working on a lot of new tracks and I cannot wait to share them. I have several other pop songs like “Kryptonite” that I am going to debut, plus I will be performing two slower songs that mean a lot to me. I think that the concertgoers can relate to those two songs! I also want them to have fun during the concert!

JE: If you had the chance to meet with aspiring singer-songwriters who want to work in the music industry, what advice would you share with them?

E: My advice is don’t hold back! Give it your all and pour your heart into your music! You cannot have that fear and you have to put everything you have into all of your efforts.
