One of the most determined WBFF athletes I have met so far in my two years covering the WBFF (World Beauty Fitness and Fashion, Inc.) is Jeremy Martin.

His passion for the fitness industry lead him to compete in the WBFF’s US Central Show. Jeremy placed in the Top 10 at last year’s show and was one of the two winners in the show’s most popular categories: Male Fitness Model.

For his Five Question Challenge, he talked about why he decided to compete with the WBFF and how will his Pro Card grow as a professional athlete.

Jacob Elyachar: How did you get into bodybuilding?

Jeremy Martin:I got into bodybuilding after my running career had ended, I was not happy being the little guy sitting at 140lbs. at 6’ tall so I joined a local gym that had a few competitors. After a few months, I began to see some drastic changes in my physique and became very passionate about learning everything there was to learn in the fitness industry. Listening to advice of those seasoned guys and began studying for my PT (personal trainer) certifications; to say I was hooked was an understatement. After a couple of years, my competitive side took over and I decided to hit the stage…the rest was history.

JE: There are so many fitness organizations across the country. What made you decide to compete with the WBFF?

JM: After I had competed in another organization, I was not impressed on how it ran and how general the posing was. I wanted to compete in something I could truly express myself in. I began doing research on the different organizations and shows around the Midwest and came across the WBFF and the Kansas City show, my sights were locked on and I knew this was where I wanted to be.

JE: The Male Fitness Model is one of the US Central Show’s most competitive categories. What were some of your favorite moments off-stage with this year’s group of Pro Card contenders?

JM: I honestly did not know of that many people competing this year. I followed the guys I was on stage with in the previous year, but many of them were not competing until I caught wind of Blaine. I remember him being a contender from the year before and saw how he had progressed in the off-season. I knew from that moment on…both of us were going to be a couple of the top contenders. When we hit that stage, we both had the hunger for the win.

JE: How will attaining your Pro Card help you grow as a professional athlete?

JM: Attaining my pro card has opened an incredible amount of opportunities and doors. The networking ability of a pro athlete is simply amazing and increases your ability to get your name out there. The motivation level has also grown, I have always followed and idolized over the athletes that I am now being compared to and will be competing against, so to say I am motivated to see progress in the next year and know I truly will be up against the best of the best.

JE: If you had the opportunity to meet with aspiring fitness models who want to enter the fitness industry, what advice would you share with them?

JM: I would share with anyone wanting to enter the fitness industry that if it’s their dream, to go just go for it. Always strive for progress and do not let anyone or anything get in your way. It is your passion so all you have to do is put your heart and soul into it and anything is possible.
