Jake’s Take is thrilled to welcome Laura Mann!

The Philadelphia native has been compared to a diverse group of artists including Sheryl Crow, Bonnie Raitt and Lucinda Williams. In addition, her repertoire has captured the imagination of fans from different musical backgrounds!

Laura has not performed on NPR’s Mountain Stage radio program and the South by Southwest stage, but also several Grammy-nominated songwriters including Lowen & Navarro, Robert Hazard and Eric Bazillian.

Outside of performing, Laura is also a vocal supporter for two non-profits: Heart Songs for Veterans and Minding Your Mind Education Program.

For her Five Question Challenge, Laura talked about who inspired her to become a singer and what she hopes listeners get out of her latest single: “Just for Today.”

Jacob Elyachar: When did you get interested in music? How did that passion evolve into wanting a career in the music industry?

Laura Mann: I got interested in music when I was eight-years-old. My parents took me to see James Taylor in concert; He blew me away, and shortly after that I asked my parents if I could have a guitar.

JE: What are some of the challenges that you faced when you decided to go on this career path? How did you overcome them?

LM:Money was always a struggle.  I waitressed for years and years and I found out the hours and the atmosphere were not conducive to the lifestyle I wanted.  So I began a career in a massage therapy all the while perusing my true passion, writing and performing music.

JE: Let’s talk about your new single: “Just For Today.” How long did it take you to compose the track? What lesson do you hope that listeners learn from the song?

LM: Dan Navarro and I wrote “Just For Today” in one day.  I hope people will take this song as a positive lesson. Learn to stop and smell the roses. Allow yourself peace in nostalgia.

JE: What is the next chapter in your musical journey?

LM: I am going to write music and release a new CD.  In addition, I am also in the beginning stages of my new video “No Matter How Far”.

JE: If you had the chance to meet with aspiring singer-songwriters who want a career in the music industry, what advice would you share with them?

LM: Perseverance is the key, enjoy it, and have fun.
