Cherry Hill native Mighty Mark is tackling this week’s Five Question Challenge!

The Baltimore club music producer and DJ bridged the gap between the intensity of Baltimore club music and the futuristic style of the new school. Besides being a fixture in Baltimore’s underground clubs, he runs his own music label: Zoo On Mars Entertainment.

Some of career highlights include earning the title of Best Baltimore Club Music Producer courtesy of the Baltimore City Paper and his music was featured on the Oxygen Network’s Love Games. He also released multiple mixtapes and EPs.

For his Five Question Challenge, Mighty Mark talked about the biggest misconceptions audiences have about rap music and has social media helped his career…so far.

Jacob Elyachar: When did you get interested in hip-hop/rap?

Mighty Mark: I have been rapping sing middle school and started producing during my junior year of High School. I always wrote rhymes but when one of my friends introduced me to making beats on a computer it was over. “So, you telling me I can make my own beats a rap to them?” Hearing that statement was heaven on earth.

JE: What are some of the biggest misconceptions outsiders have about rap music?

MM: People believe that rap music has to be a certain way or you have to be from a certain area to rap. Rap is about soul, style, flow and culture if you study the game you can rap. If it comes from the heart you can rap.

JE: Could you describe your recording process to my readers?

MM: I usually start a track in Abelton Live then once I get a basic melody and drums down I start to think of a hook. I have a microphone in my closet, so I hop in there to freestyle ideas off.

JE: How has social media helped your career?

MM: Social media has helped my career tremendously. Social media allows me to connect to fans all over and give music straight to the people without any middleman.

JE: If you had the chance to meet with aspiring rappers and producers who want to enter the music industry, what advice would share with them?

MM: I would tell any upcoming rapper, producer or musician in general to believe in yourself and create from the heart. People love real music and real stories!
