The Muppets are in the house! Since Kermit the Frog made his Masked Singer debut as the Snail in Season Five, I hoped that the Muppets would make an appearance on FOX’s hit undercover celebrity singing competition. Tonight, they took over the show in a huge way. Robogirl and two new performers – the Lambs and the Beetle had to perform songs related to the Muppets. Did Robogirl keep her crown? Or did the Lambs or the Beetle move one step closer to taking on Harp Mask in the Season Eight finals? Plus, Miss Piggy joined the panel! Did the Muppets’ reigning diva and panelists (Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg) correctly deduce the eliminated celebrities’ true identities? Read on to find out!
For the first time, Nick and the entire Masked Singer panel joined forces for a performance. They performed “Rainbow Connection” with Kermit himself. I got chills from the collaboration; as always, Nicole delivered a flawless vocal. I was surprised by Ken’s good vocals and Nick’s great voice.
The Muppets’ leading lady, Miss Piggy, demanded that the panel join her at the desk. After Miss Piggy roasted Ken, Nick revealed that Robogirl would perform first to retain her crown. She showed two “B” notes in her clue package, a jar of honey, and a photo of Lindsay Lohan. Robogirl sang Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” with Kermit accompanying her on the piano! Robogirl’s vocals were on fire, and Miss Piggy called it “angelic.” Miss Piggy had 20 seconds to grill Robogirl. She revealed that pink is her favorite color, that she was both an actor and singer, and has been in six films. Jenny suggested Zendaya and Shay Mitchell. Meanwhile, Nicole guessed America Ferrera due to her Ugly Betty connection or Liza Koshy.
While Robogirl hammed it up with Fozzie Bear, Muppets Night continued with newcomer Beetle. The Beetle’s clue package included red carpets, sunglasses, and a courtroom with a gavel. He also revealed that he appeared on the West End. As Kermit watched him perform “The Way You Look Tonight,” I immediately heard Jerry Springer’s voice! Miss Piggy grilled the Beetle, discovered that the performer was not known for his haircut, and won several Emmys. The Muppets leading lady thought it was John Laroquette, while Nicole thought it was Rowan Atkinson. Meanwhile, Ken thought it was Mike Meyers under the mask. Jenny ended the guessing round with Jerry Springer.
The Lambs were the second trio to take the Masked Singer: Season Eight stage. In their pre-performance package, the Lambs revealed that Miss Piggy was their style icon. The trio were red carpet regulars from Venice and featured a diamond ring. They sang Katy Perry’s “Hot N’ Cold” for their performance. It was a mixed bag of a performance, as their harmonies were good, but I was not too fond of their solos. Jenny loved their vocals, while Miss Piggy discovered they were on MySpace and worked with Sir Paul McCartney. Ken thought they were the Kardashians. Nicole thought that they were HAIM. Meanwhile Robin guessed the Chicks!
The audience voted to send home the Beetle as the Lambs and Robogirl prepared for the Battle Royale. Nicole doubled down her Rowan Atkinson guess, and Ken also stood by his guess of Mike Meyers. Jenny also stood by her guess of Jerry Springer, and Robin joined her. Miss Piggy guessed John Laroquette, but JENNY, ROBIN, AND I WERE RIGHT…JERRY SPRINGER WAS BEETLE!
After Miss Piggy and Uncle Deadly had a fight, Kermit and Animal announced the Battle Royale. The Battle Royale song was Blondie’s “Call Me.” Robogirl gave me chills with her high-energy pop-rock cover, while the Lambs surprised me with their harmonies and won me over (and the battle). The panelists chose the Lambs to be the new Queens!
As the Lambs celebrated, it was time for Robogirl to unmask. Ken guessed actress Sydney Sweeney, while Jenny thought it was Shay Mitchell. Nicole suggested Liza Koshy and Robin thought of Keke Palmer. Miss Piggy was the final guess was herself! ROBOGIRL WAS SINGER-ACTRESS KAT GRAHAM!
On Sunday, November 6, the show celebrates the 90s!
