2011 brought us incredible moments in television. This is the first of a two-part series of blog posts.
10. Rachel Crow’s Shocking Elimination on X Factor
One of the very first auditions that Americans saw from the first season of The X Factor was from 13-year-old Colorado native Rachel Crow. Crow wowed viewers from day one and continued to soar throughout the competition as she hit high notes for her renditions of “I’d Rather Go Blind,” “Satisfaction,” and “I Believe.” But at the end of the December 8 results show, Crow was given her walking papers by America because she had a lowest amount of votes.

9. Meredith Vieira leaves the TODAY SHOW
Many TODAY Show viewers were shocked to hear that five-year co-anchor Meredith Vieira announced on May 9, 2011 that she would be leaving the show in June. On her final show, the entire staff of NBC said goodbye to her in a very unique way, click here to see it: http://youtu.be/IwtAScZzhFg
8. Scott Pelley debuts on CBS Evening News
After Katie Couric’s contract with CBS expired and the former CBS Evening News anchor and managing editor headed to ABC, the 60 Minutes correspondent made his debut as anchor and managing editor for CBS Evening News on June 6, 2011. According to some of my colleagues who were part of the summer internship program, both the interns and Scott Pelley started on the same day.
7. Once Upon A Time/Grimm Debuts
Two fairy tale dramas debuted on rival networks. Both of these shows have different approaches but have the same theme: fairy tale characters in our world. Once Upon a Time follows the journey of the grown daughter (Jennifer Morrison) of Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) tries to reverse the curse of the Evil Queen (Lana Parrilla), who trapped the characters in the fictional town of Storybrooke with no memories of their former lives. The Peacock Network’s Grimm focuses on a homicidal detective who has to fight to keep the world safe from sinister storybook characters.

6. American Idol: Rebirth
As the long-running reality T.V. show American Idol entered its’ tenth season, many thought that without longtime fixtures: Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul, the show would exit the airwaves. However, the show proved them wrong as veteran judge Randy Jackson was joined by superstar judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, who found potential stars in Pia Toscano, Haley Reinhart, James Durban and the show’s top two: Scott McCreery and Lauren Alaina.
To watch a performance of Pia’s “I’ll Stand By You,” one of the best performances from the season, click here: http://youtu.be/32I_D6yxVY8
