The Top 10 Performances of “The Voice: Season Five”

By: Jacob Elyachar, jakes-take.com

Tomorrow night, Will Champlin, Tessanne Chin and Jacquie Lee have one final chance to convince America that they are The Voice of Season Five!

But before the trio takes the stage…here are 10 of the most memorable performances from this season!

10. Preston Pohl: “Electric Feel

Our countdown kicks off with Preston Pohl’s impeccable cover of “Electric Feel.” From his raw vocals to catching the attention of all three male coaches, the native Texan delivered one of the most memorable Blind Auditions of this season and sent him on a trail to the Live Shows.

9. Stephanie Anne Johnson: “Georgia On My Mind

Team Christina’s resident soul powerhouse paid homage to Ray Charles when she performed Georgia’s official state song! Her sultry vocals gave everyone goose bumps and I bet that the Genius smiled down from heaven after hearing that performance.

8. Caroline Pennell: “Anything Could Happen

I have never seen anyone more excited to be on The Voice stage than Caroline Pennell. Her reactions when she first got recognition from the audience to Blake and CeeLo turning their chairs around, Sweet Caroline became a fan-favorite with her dreamy vocals and infectious positive attitude.

Cole Vosbury The Voice

7. Cole Vosbury: “Let Her Go

Until Cole sang this song in the Knockout Rounds, I have never heard of Passenger or “Let Her Go.”  Cole transformed this into an impeccable folk soul anthem that moved both the taping audience and the viewers at home.  I think letting Cole go was CeeLo’s worst mistake this season!

6. Kat Robichaud: “You Oughta Know

Kat’s cover of Alanis Morisette’s signature song showed that she had the intensity, firepower and determination to make it to the Live Rounds! In addition, her powerful vocals and showmanship enhanced her performance and should earn a place in The Voice’s Hall of Fame.

Jacquie Lee I Put A Spell On You The Voice

5. Jacquie Lee: “I Put A Spell On You

I was very hesitant with Jacquie Lee early in the competition.  She proved me wrong when she tackled one of Nina Simone’s iconic songs! This was probably one of her best vocals during her time on The Voice stage (that last note and run was OUTSTANDING) and I strongly believe that she ran circles around Demi Lovato’s Girls on the third season of X Factor USA after that performance.

4. Donna Allen: “You Are So Beautiful

Donna Allen will be known as the one artist that got away! Her cover of the Joe Cocker classic brilliantly showcased off her vocal range and it gave everyone chills! I wish she could audition for AGT (I believe that Howard, Heidi and Mel B would love her!)

Will Champlin At Last The Voice Season Five

3. Will Champlin: “At Last

Going into Top Eight week, Will Champlin was an underdog. With Cole, Matthew and James dominating their performances week after week, Will had to step up to the plate.  He did it in a huge way with a cover of Etta James’ signature song! I had the pleasure of seeing Will perform this song live during the taping and he blew everyone away! I think this performance trajected him to the finale.

2. Matthew Schuler: “Wrecking Ball

When someone is assigned to perform a Miley Cyrus song on any singing show, I get nervous for the performer! The Bangerz singer’s marketing of her singles has been inappropriate at times and it usually jinks the contestants’ chances in moving further along in the competition.  Matthew rejuvenated the song and transformed it into his own anthem with his bombastic vocal range!

Tessanne Chin Bridge Over Troubled Water The Voice

1. Tessanne Chin: “Bridge Over Troubled Water

10 years ago, I remembered watching Clay Aiken performing his iconic take on the Simon & Garfunkel classic on the American Idol finale and thought: “No one will ever be able to top this masterpiece!” Last week, Ms. Tessanne Chin delivered a stunning cover that made her performance equivalent to Mr. Aiken. Her pitch and vocals were spot on and Tessanne’s final note will be talked about for years to come.

  1. Danielle Notaro says

C’mon! Man. Love Interruption, Case of You-James Wolpert-were so fine. and Sail-Kat R. knocked me for a loop it was so good. Jaquie-her best for me hands down was Back to Black. Oh yes, Preston singing Electric Feel was totally exciting.

  2. Sorry I can’t agree with your take on Tessane Chin’s BOTW performance. Nobody has yet come close to Clay in over 10 years and possibly never will. Tessane warbled and wandered all over the melody ruining the song for me. Last note was also an awkward choice. Not feeling it, Jake.

  3. Fantastic goods from you, man. I’ve understand your stuff previous to and you’re just extremely wonderful. I actually like what you have acquired here, certainly like what you’re stating and the way in which you say it. You make it enjoyable and you still care for to keep it smart. I cant wait to read much more from you. This is really a great website.|
