The Masked Singer: Season Nine revealed its champion tonight!
After weeks of entertainment icons being unmasked (Dick van Dyke, Grandmaster Flash, and Howie Mandel) and shocking eliminations (Justice for Holly Robinson Peete, Michael Bolton, and Pentatonix!), we are two to the last undercover celebrity performers.
The Macaw and Medusa faced off for the Golden Mask trophy with two new songs. Who joined T-Pain, Wayne Brady, Kandi Burress, LeAnn Rimes, Nick Lachey, Jewel, Teyana Taylor, and Amber Riley in the Masked Singer Winners’ Circle? Did any panelists (Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke, and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg) correctly deduce the final two performers’ true identities?
Read on to find out!
After Nick Cannon and both finalists entered, he revealed that both performers would be unmasked, but one would be awarded with the Golden Mask Trophy. Macaw kicked off the evening and revealed that he competed again in front of millions and hoped not to get second again. Macaw sang one of my favorite songs – James Bay’s “Hold Back the River.” My favorite cover of this song is from All Together Now: UK runners-up Southern Flavor, who delivered a fantastic cover of this song back in 2019. However, David Archuleta, I mean Macaw Mask’s version, is a very close second. Ken praised Macaw for his “strongest performance of the season,” Nicole called him “an inspiration for everyone.” Jenny suggested Neil Patrick Harris. However, Nicole was right on the nose and guessed David Archuleta.
Medusa Mask’s road to the Masked Singer: Season Nine finale has been treacherous. She was almost eliminated until the judges saved her, and she fought her way back to the show and was inspired by the Queen of Hearts. Her second to last performance was Sia’s “Elastic Heart,” which was emotional and bombastic. I still stand by my guess of Joss Stone. Robin praised Medusa for her consistency and called her one of his favorites of all nine seasons. Jenny picked up on a Twitter guess and declared Fergie. Meanwhile, Robin selected Grimes, and Nicole thought of Bishop Briggs.
Macaw’s final performance on the Masked Singer stage was Eric Carmen’s “All By Myself.” It was a spectacular vocal performance that reminded me so much of his Idol glory days! Meanwhile, Medusa’s final performance was My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade.” In all honesty, I would have buzzed. This was a lousy song selection for her, even if it was her deceased sister’s song.
While I loved Medusa on ABBA Night and New York Night, Macaw had more consistent vocal performances and should win the Golden Mask. The Masked Singer panel and audience voted for one final time. MEDUSA MASK WAS The winner of Masked Singer: Season Nine…BOO! Sadly, Macaw Mask came in second place again! Jason Mraz, Neil Patrick Harris, and David Archuleta. NICOLE, KEN, & I WERE RIGHT…DAVID ARCHULETA WAS MACAW!
As David hugged the panel and exited the stage, the panelists guessed Grimes, Susan Boyle, Fergie, and Bishop Briggs. NICOLE WAS RIGHT….BISHOP BRIGGS WAS MEDUSA!
CONGRATULATIONS, BISHOP BRIGGS, for winning The Masked Singer: Season Nine!
