For the third year in a row, the dynamic duo of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler returned to host one of Hollywood’s biggest nights!
While the Golden Globes celebrate the best of television, the winners of the Hollywood Foreign Press Associations’ golden statues are a strong indicator of who might win the Academy Award!
So who won which award? Read on to find out…
Tina and Amy kicked off the evening with the monologue! Several of the best bits from their monologue focused on North Korea! Tina stated that the films that were honored tonight were “all the movies North Korea was okay with.” She also added that the country’s review of “absolutely intolerable” was not the worst review that The Interview has ever received.
They also poked fun of Emma Stone’s “Big Eyes,” Joaquin Phoenix’s appearance, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s obsession of Tina Fey, the definition of cakes and birthdays and Bill Cosby!
After they left the stage, a shell-shocked Benedict Cumberbatch met Jennifer Aniston…who presented J.K. Simmons with the Best Supporting Actor award for his work in Whiplash. The 50 Shades of Grey’s Dakota Johnson and Jamie Doman made their public debut to present Downton Abbey’s Joanne Froggatt with the Best Supporting Actress Award in the television field.
A sexy Jennifer Lopez teamed up with Jeremy Renner to present the Best Miniseries or Television Film to Fargo! As the Fargo crew left the stage, the duo presented Billy Bob Thornton with the Best Actor award in the Best Performance in a Miniseries category for his work in Fargo. He kept it short and sweet!
In the second Tina/Amy segment, they presented a new member of the Hollywood Foreign Press…Ms. Margaret Cho as a North Korean general! She “posed” with Meryl Streep, while Michael Keaton took a picture on his cell phone. After that moment, Golden Globe winner Colin Firth presented a preview of The Imitation Game. As Firth left the stage, Kerry Washington and Bryan Cranston presented Jane the Virgin breakout star Gina Rodriguez with her first Golden Globe! In addition, Cranston and Washington handed Jeffrey Tambor, the cast and crew of Transparent the Best Musical or Comedy Award.
One of the oddest couples of the night were Sienna Miller and Vince Vaughn, who presented with Johann Johannsson the award for Original Score-Motion Picture for his work in Theory of Everything. Prince got a very warm reception when he first appeared on stage for the Best Original Song in a Motion Picture. He was ecstatic that John Legend and Common won the category!
Seth Meyers and Katie Holmes revealed that the non-winners received a certificate for the Beverly Hilton breakfast! However, they really presented Matt Bomer for his Golden Globe-winning performance in The Normal Heart. Legendary Globes host Ricky Gervais made the crowd laugh with his off-color remarks! He left the stage once he presented the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical award to Amy Adams for her work in Big Eyes!
Kevin Hart praised co-presenter Salma Hayek and dropped his latest movie, The Wedding Ringer, before recognizing Greer Grammer as Ms. Golden Globe. They also presented How to Train Your Dragon 2 with the Best Animated Feature Film award. This was the first time Dreamworks and FOX won the award.
Jared Leto paid tribute to their “brothers and sisters” in France before giving Patricia Arquettte her first Golden Globe for Boyhood! Amy and Tina brought their North Korea visitor on stage and she “complained” about not having Dennis Rodman and Orange Is The New Black! SNL veterans Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig presented the Birdman screenwriting team with the Best Screenplay award!
Two Golden Globe legends Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin got laughs as they presented the Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical! In a tight race filled with veteran actors, it was Transparent’s Jeffrey Tambor that took home the trophy. Mr. Tambor praised show creator Jill Soloway, his cast and his new best friend: Amazon! He also dedicated to his award to the Transgender community. He praised them for their patience and support.
Adrien Brody and Kate Beckinsale presented Maggie Gyllenhaal for The Honourable Women. While she won the award for the Best Performance in a Miniseries or Television Film, I strongly believe that Jessica Lange should have won this award for her work on American Horror Story.
His closest friends, Juliana Margulies and Don Cheadle, traded jabs and love for George Clooney as they presented him with the Cecil B. DeMille Award. Among the films that were featured in the tribute included Michael Clayton, Syriana, Up In The Air, Ocean’s Eleven, The Ides of March and The Descendants. They also showed his time on E.R. With the Ocean’s Eleven theme playing, the audience gave Mr. Clooney a standing ovation and the honoree praised the Hollywood Foreign Press and his friends. He also talked about how 80-percent of the room caught the brass ring and told them: “it ain’t losing!” Mr. Clooney ended his speech by paying tribute to his wife, Amal and the Paris March.
Clooney’s predecessor for the Cecil B. DeMille Award, Harrison Ford, made a rare appearance at the Golden Globes. He presented Boyhood’s visionary director, Richard Linklater, with the Best Director award. As Mr. Linklater left the stage, Hollywood’s latest A-list couple, Chris Pratt and Anna Feris, made the audience laugh at their jokes and presented Ruth Wilson for the Best Actress (Drama) Award for her work in The Affair.
Amy Adams returned to the stage to present Michael Keaton for his very first Golden Globe Award for Birdman. In his speech, he recognized his best friend (and son), Sean Douglas. Tina and Amy introduced “Winfrey” aka Oprah to the audience. The Queen of Talk introduced her film, Selma, as the final Best Motion Picture nominee.
Robert Downey, Jr. was assigned to hand out the Best Motion Picture-Comedy or Musical Award to a deserving film! That film was The Grand Budapest Hotel! Wes Anderson got laughs as he mentioned a majority of the Hollywood Foreign Press members by name.
As the Globes headed down the home stretch, Julianne Moore won Best Actress in a Drama Award. Meanwhile, Eddie Redmayne beat out both Benedict Cumberbatch and David Oyelowo for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in the Best Actor in the Drama film. Finally, Meryl Streep presented Boyhood with the Best Picture (Drama) Award!
