The Queens of Darkness have taken Storybrooke by storm!
Using the blood of Snow and Charming, Ursula and Cruella de Vil resurrected their old partner-in-crime: the Mistress of All Evil-Maleficent.
It turns out she wants to watch the Charmings suffer for their failure to protect her child when Regina enacted the Dark Curse. To protect their secret, Snow asked the former Evil Queen to go undercover and learn their plans.
The Queens of Darkness’ plan intersects with the former Evil Queen’s plan: find the Author and change the balance between good and evil! Regina successfully goes undercover and helped Maleficent kidnapped Pinocchio. She also learned that Rumple is successfully back in town, reclaimed his dagger from his ex-wife and partnered with his former students.
Rumple used his dagger on young Pinocchio and the Blue Fairy’s magic washed away to reveal August. Now, August and Regina are in the battle of their lives as four of Once Upon A Time’s nastiest villains want to find the Author’s whereabouts. Did they survive?
As the villains pressed August for clues, viewers finally learned Hook’s connection to Ursula. Back in the Enchanted Forest, Captain Hook was still working to please Pan…but he heard a beautiful voice and that gorgeous voice almost sunk Hook’s ship. The voice belonged to Poseidon’s daughter, who protested her father’s request of killing Hook and that voice belonged to a young Ursula.
The pirate first met Ursula in person when he thanked her for saving his ship from destruction. Ursula shared her origin with Captain Hook and told him that she wanted to honor her late mother by traveling to her mother’s favorite land. Hook vowed to take transport Ursula to the realm.
Little did she know that Poseidon confronted Hook and offered him a chance to get his revenge on the Dark One! All he had to do steal her singing voice and she would return to the ocean. Hook revealed Poseidon’s dirty trick to young Ursula and asked her to steal squid ink from her father.
Poseidon stopped the transaction from happening and stole the squid ink back from Hook. Enraged, Hook stole Ursula’s singing voice and the future sea witch furiously swam away.
Over in present day Storybrooke, a resurrected August got a rude awakening as he was surrounded by five of the Enchanted Forest’s most dangerous villains. Regina did want to hurt August, but used a smoke spell to briefly posses Snow who warned them about the returns of Gold and August.
The heroes rushed to Gold’s shop and to find the dagger, but Belle revealed that she gave the dagger to Hook. Emma revealed that Gold deceived his wife once again and Hook swore vengeance at Gold for deceiving Belle. While Emma disapproved of Hook killing his arch-rival, he decided to give tear a page off of Emma’s book…giving Ursula back her happy ending.
Hook traveled back to the forest to confront the Sea Witch. Before she could strike down the Captain, Hook said that he could give her back—her happy ending. After striking a deal, Ursula used her tentacles to bring the Jolly Roger back to Storybrooke. She was successful and brought the miniature Jolly Roger back to the land.
As Hook and Ursula recruited Will Scarlett to help resize the Jolly Roger, Regina began having bad nightmares involving her return to the dark side and ruining her reunion with Robin Hood. Once Regina woke up, Rumple returned with a serum of the fairy’s strongest magic. He forced August to swallow it and he turned back into the wooden version of himself.
With the Charmings on the way, the villains continued to torture August by revisiting his lie detector. August revealed that the Sorcerer trapped the Author behind a wooden door in his mansion. As Gold, Regina and Maleficent headed to the Sorcerer’s mansion, Ursula and Hook used magic to enlarge the Jolly Roger. Hook kept his end of the bargain as he found the enchanted seashell that contained Ursula’s singing voice. Unfortunately, the spell did not return Ursula’s voice to her body because of her villainous status. Enraged, she pushed Hook off the Jolly Roger and into the ocean.
However, a returning Ariel (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) saved Hook from his watery grave! Ariel revealed that she was trapped on the Jolly Roger (thanks to Elsa). As Hook and Ariel connected, Emma and the Charmings outsmarted Cruella in attempt to rescue August. Unfortunately, Ursula arrived at Rumple’s cabin and threatened to squeeze Snow to death.
Just in time, Hook convinced Ursula not to kill Snow and revealed that Ariel brought Poseidon back to their realm. He gave Ursula her voice back and the father-daughter embraced. As the family left the cabin, Hook revealed his happy ending-Emma. Before Ursula left the realm, she revealed that Gold was going to fill Emma’s heart with darkness and once its done…the villains would have their happy endings!
Next week, the Charmings’ secret is out and it will destroy their family!
