10 future stars in the Kansas City area will have the chance to compete for a spot in this year’s Variety Show.
Thanks to the support of their fan bases, Lexie Althaus, Samantha Fleetwood, Grace Fields, Madison Porter, Alyssa Mendoza, Chloe Kerwin, Kyle Baker, Lily Kincade, Brooke Bestvater, and Andrea Strickler have raised enough money for the Kansas City chapter of Variety and will perform in front of the community at the Alamo Draft House on Sunday.
These 10 kids will have the opportunity to taste the adrenaline rush of what their favorite performers go through, all thanks to the Young Variety members, who planned the event.
“We wanted a way to get a younger generation of talent involved in the Variety Show while raising money and awareness for Variety Children’s Charity,” Variety Show 2013 co-chair Mark Moberly said. “American Idol, The Voice, and shows of that nature are very popular on television so we decided to spin-off that concept and do Star Search.”
In order to participate in this contest, candidates had to film an audition video and post it to the Variety Show’s website by December 30. After that, the Star Search Panel narrowed the field down to 20 contestants, who had the opportunity to raise money for their spot in the Top 10.
“Their support by participating in this event, will help out more kids in Kansas City that have special needs.” said Deb Wiebrecht, Variety’s Executive Director. “I am hoping that this event touches their heart, as well as exposing different people in the community to their talent.”
Wiebrecht hopes that the Top 10 prepare themselves for stepping out of their comfort zone.
“When you are performing in front of your bedroom, it is a lot easier.” Wiebrecht said. “However, there is that true professional component that our kids need to have on Sunday, when they have to perform in front of a mini-live audience at the Alamo.”
In addition to performing in front of a live audience at the Alamo Theater, the Top 10 will perform in front of three “celebrity” judges, who will determine the winner of the event and who will perform in the Variety Show on Saturday, March 2.
“People should come to the Young Variety Star Search event because they will support the mission of the Variety Children’s Charity and see some great performances by talented young Kansas City stars.” Moberly said.
