The Masked Singer: Season 11 Group B made their debuts tonight and they followed the Yellow Brick Road to the stage for Wizard of Oz night.
We met AAA, BBB, CCC, DDD, and EEE, who were on the hunt to join the likes of T-Pain, LeAnn Rimes, Jewel, Amber Riley, and Ne-Yo in the Winners’ Circle! Which performers impressed the Emerald City residents and stayed in the competition? Who had to click their heels three times and had to go home? Did any of the Masked Singer panelists (Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Robin Thicke, and newcomer Rita Ora) correctly deduce the eliminated performer? Read on to find out!
Speaking of the “How Do I Live?” singer-songwriter and future coach of The Voice Australia and The Voice UK, the Season Four champion kicked off the evening with a beautiful rendition of the legendary “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
Gumball Mask was the first Group B member to perform! The Tin Man inspired Gumball as he found several similarities. His pre-performance package featured a map of the American South, drums performed at theme parks, and a spider. He sang “If I Only Had a Heart” and mocked the Tin Man’s movements before entering Kelly Clarkson’s “Heartbeat Song.” Immediately, I gravitated toward Gavin DeGraw. I loved how he showcased his vocal range and gave Rita a yellow gumball with a red heart. A Flying Monkey delivered Gumball’s clue, which involved a “superhero” heart. Rita guessed Chase Crawford, while Robin added Kevin Jonas into the mix. Meanwhile, Ken suggested it was Rita’s Fifty Shades of Grey co-star Jamie Dornan.
Miss Cleocatra was the second member of Masked Singer: Season 11 Group B to enter the fray. Glinda inspired Miss Cleocatra. Her clues included an hourglass, “vacation,” a national treasure, and a tiara. When she sang Etta James’ “Stormy Weather,” I immediately got chills and thought it was Jenifer Lewis. Miss Glutch delivered her clue by giving “a star wand.” Robin suggested Loretta Devine, while Jenny thought it was Sheryl Lee Ralph, and Ken added Taraji P. Henson.
Afghan Hound made her debut with fireworks and strutted out to the stage. The Cowardly Lion inspired her, and her pre-package clues included a clothesline, a TV remote, a TV, and a rainbow. I would buzz the Afghan Hound, and it is safe to say that she is one of the show’s worst singers. The Men in Black brought out the Cowardly Lion’s Badge of Courage as her family contained many colorful characters. Rita guessed Sistine Stallone, while Ken added Olivia Jade. Jenny thought Afghan Hound was Brooke Hogan, the Reality TV star and daughter of wrestling legend Hulk Hogan. While the Afghan Hound did not like the clue, Jenny doubled her guess by adding that the “clothesline” clue could mean a wrestling move.
As Nick caught Ken trying to be the Great and Powerful Oz, the Beets were the last performers to take The Masked Singer stage. Dorothy and Toto inspired the Beets. Their pre-performance package contained a radio, the two of hearts playing card, and apples. They sang “Home,” and I immediately got chills. Jenny praised their harmonies, but Rita still thought they were comedians. Toto was the clue, and the Beets revealed they were best friends and co-stars. Rita thought it was Will Arnett and Jason Bateman, while Ken thought it was K-Ci and JoJo. Robin guessed Steve Martin and Martin Short.
The panel and audience voted Afghan Hound and Gumball into the smackdown, while the Beets and Miss Cleocatra were safe for the next round. They sang “Ding Dong! The Witch is Dead,” I wished I had a buzzer to buzz Afghan Hound. Gumball transformed the Oz anthem into a Top 40 bop! Gumball won the smackdown and Afghan Hound was forced to unmask. Robin guessed Bethany Frankel, while Jenny doubled down with her Brooke Hogan guess. Ken stood by his Olivia Jade guess and Rita added Sistine Stallone.
Afghan Hound was SAVANNAH CHRISLEY!
