One surprising friendship that has blossomed over the past four years is the relationship between David and Captain Hook.
The two prominent men started out as adversaries back in Season Two as Hook came to Storybrooke for revenge against Mr. Gold, who killed his lover back in the Enchanted Forest. When it was discovered that the good captain had feelings for Emma, David went into papa bear and kept an extra eye on Hook. However, sometime between the fights against the Queens of Darkness, the Dark Ones, Hades, and Mr. Hyde, David accepted Hook as a member of the Charming Family.
Tonight, David and Hook’s friendship was put to the test as an old threat from Prince Charming’s past returned and threatened David’s sanity. Did Hook save his future father-in-law? Read on to find out.
After toasting Emma for defeating Gideon, David was contemplating if he was ever going to look Snow in the eyes. As he was about to head back in, a man with bloody hands quickly appeared and disappeared right in front of him. As David fainted on the ground, a shocked Hook shook him back to consciousness and advised him to wake up Snow and “get some bloody sleep.” An already agitated David snapped back at Hook and said that he wanted advice, he would seek elsewhere. As Hook went back into the house, David found his father’s coin in his pocket.
Elsewhere in Storybrooke, the wish realm’s Robin Hood was having a hard time adjusting to living in the Maine town. Viewers could tell that this situation was awkward for both Robin and Regina. Snow was shocked with Regina’s decision to bring this version of Robin to Storybrooke. Regina told her one-time mortal nemesis that Robin was miserable in the wish realm, but Snow warned her stepmother: “Looking like Robin Hood, does not make him the same person.” She also advised Regina to tell Robin the truth about this realm and his daughter with Zelena. Snow closed her argument that she wanted Regina to be happy, but she was very skeptical about this situation.
Hook visited Archie and confided in him that his relationship with David is going south. He then showed Archie—an engagement ring, but Hook added that he needed David’s blessing. Archie was pleased with Hook’s progress and added that life is too precious. As Hook thought about David, Charming was greeted by his father’s specter, who stated that he wanted the truth to be revealed about his demise.
When Hook visited the Charmings’ apartment, David told the good captain about his father’s spirit. As Charming forced Hook into a partnership, Regina told Robin Hood about Henry’s book. Zelena suddenly appeared at Regina’s doorstep and ordered her sister to tell Robin Hood to stay away from her daughter. While Zelena transported herself from Regina’s house, Robin escaped and sought the Sheriff of Nottingham. He managed to track down the Sheriff and was about to murder him in cold blood.
He immediately attacked the Sheriff, and Regina stopped him by transporting him away. As Regina wanted Robin to promise her that he would not go out and kill anyone, David forced Hook to be a lookout as David went into the shed to look for magic. Emma arrived at her house and Hook tried to stall her as David gathered the equipment necessary to create a spell.
Regina brought Robin to her vault and stated that she changed her wicked ways, but the former Evil Queen dropped a big bomb about Zelena and baby Robin. However, Regina hoped to be a part of Robin’s new start and they kissed, but Regina did not feel anything. Back at the Charmings, the men tried their hand at creating magic. They were able to create a potion, where they found that David’s father was at Pleasure Island.
Regina brought Robin to her vault and stated that she changed her wicked ways, but the former Evil Queen dropped a big bomb about Zelena and baby Robin. However, Regina hoped to be a part of Robin’s new start, and they kissed, but Regina did not feel anything. Back at the Charmings, the men tried their hand at creating magic. They were able to create a potion, where they found that David’s father was at Pleasure Island.
The duo went to August, who told David about his father’s adventure in Pleasure Island. August also spilled Hook and David about the missing pages that he ripped pages from Henry’s book and told him they could lead to David’s father’s murderer. However, David already had an idea who killed his father and Hook advised his future father-in-law “not to go after him!” But, David handcuffed Hook on a bicycle rack.
David tracked the ex-King George down, who confirmed that he ordered his father’s death. Charming and George were about to duel him to the death until Hook stopped him. As Hook put George in his cell, David spilled the beans about not having the confidence to be there for his family in the future. The good captain broke through to David and advised him to think of his father, and with that thought, David broke down and did not kill the wicked king.
As David threw his father’s coin into Storybrooke Harbor, he apologized to Hook about his actions and gave him his blessing to marry Emma. As David slept, Regina told Snow about the kiss and how she felt no feeling from him and the pair deduced that he is a false “Robin Hood.” As “Robin Hood” looked around in Regina’s vault, August gave Hook the missing pages from the storybook and it was revealed that Hook killed Charming’s father back in the Enchanted Forest.
